Half-elves are humanoids born through the union of an elf and a human. Whether a half-elf is raised by their human parent or their elven parent, they feel isolated and alone. A cruel fate bestowed upon them not only by their surrounding cultures and societies but by the very Gods themselves.

Because they take around twenty years to reach adulthood, they mature quickly when raised by elves (who think they look like humans), making them feel like an outsider amongst the slow pace of Elven culture and traditions of adulthood. When raised by humans (who think they look like elves) they grow at the same rate as their peers, making their differences subtle, yet strong, causing them to often be victims of bullying and supremacy despite their fellows also being amazed by their beauty and grace.

Half-elves look “exactly” like elves to all other folk, but an elf can merely glance at a half-elf and know their true origins. Often half-elves will take measures to hide their ears when in the company of full-blooded elves, and some even dare to pretend to be full-blooded elves around non-elven folk as none are the wiser.

To the pure-blooded high elves of L’istolyn, the only thing fouler than a half-orc is a half-elf. Half-elves may be referred to as the “Ill-Born” by full-blooded elves.
